6 Days and Counting!

We only have 6 more days until our trip to Washington! I'm so excited to go see my family. It seems like it's been so long. The only people in my family that have met Kate are my mom and sister, Kim, so I'm excited to be able to show her off a bit. I know I already have this picture on the side, but it's so stinkin cute that it deserves to be bigger!

It's Done!!

Well, the Easter Bunny dropped by with a welcome suprise today...a new crib!! It's finally done! We are so excited. Here's the finished product.

Chris was a little pooped after all his hard work & a lot relieved that it's finally done.
Kate seems pretty happy too. It's quite a step up from her old bed!

One hot chica & a trip to the park

Kate tried on her shades for the first time today & she liked them! Looks like we're going to have some trouble when she startes dating!

We took a trip to the Martin Nature Center in Oklahoma City today. The weather was so beautiful and we wanted to go hiking so badly. We settled for the closest park we knew of instead. This picture was taken at the park. Chris is pointing to one of the turtle platforms he made 14 years ago for his Eagle Scout project. It still looks great!! He was excited to see it still being used after all these years.

I decided to get Kate's feet wet in the river. I think she was fascinated by the new experience. It made for a cute picture if nothing else! (Notice my hiking shoes...there really aren't any places to hike around here in OKC)

Chris decided to give Kate her first 4-wheeling experience on the trail. I wish we could have taken a better picture, but the rest of the trail was too rough! :)

I'm not sure what we did to get so lucky, but Kate is just the best baby ever. This is what she did the whole time. She just looked around and seemed to take in everything around her...even when Mommy was putting her in the ice cold river and Daddy was driving her over all those bumps!

Busy Weekend

Boy, oh boy has this been a busy weekend. First, Chris and I (mainly Chris) worked on staining Kate's crib. We're still not positive we have the perfect color (it's more difficult than we expected, but then this whole process has been more difficult than we thought it would be) :), but here's some before and after pictures.

In addition to staining Kate's crib, Chris installed a new light fixture on the front of our house. For whatever reason, the builders only put a sconce on one side of the garage. It's been driving Chris and I crazy since we moved in, so we decided to add another one to make it symmetrical. Here's the finished product!

Here's the real doozie of our weekend. After the light fixture was installed, we decided to go out to eat with Chris' parents. As we were following them to the restaurant, we got in an accident. I'll skip the details, but basically we were stopped behind his parents and then a lady slammed into the back of our Jeep and pushed us into his parent's car. Fortunately no one was hurt. The lady's car was pretty much totalled, our Jeep is in a pretty sad state, but it is still driveable and I think Chris' parent's car is scratched a bit.

Basically, we had a very eventful weekend. We've learned a lot and we're glad that we're all safe and healthy.

Kate rolled over yesterday for the first time! She's rolled from her tummy to her back for a while now, but this was the first time from her back to her tummy. Pretty fun!

Dirty Jobs

Can I just say how much I hate cleaning toilets?? I was cleaning ours today and thinking of how much I dislike cleaning bathrooms. Then I remembered that life could be worse. For example, it could be like my first year at Ricks college. That year I decided to get an early-morning cleaning job. I was supposed to work from 4-7am and when I signed up for the job I wasn't told exactly what I would be cleaning. Well...turns out I got the dirtiest job - cleaning the bathrooms in the sports building. (I can't remember the name of the building...the Hart building maybe?) Can I just say how not fun it is to clean toilets at 4:00 in the morning? Needless to say that job only lasted a few weeks! (I hated it and I could never seem to get there before 5am.) :) Unfortunately cleaning toilets seems to be a permanent part of my life. At least I don't have to do it at 4am anymore!

Speaking of dirty jobs, I think Mike Rowe should try changing some of Kate's poopy diapers! It's a whole new world now that she's eating solid foods!!

Toothless and ruthless no more

So today we got home from Church and I was sitting on the couch with Kate while she chomped away on my hand like usual. Then, I realized that it hurt! She actually has a tooth coming up on the bottom! I can't believe it - no warning at all. No excess fussiness, temperature, drooling, etc. I'm kinda excited and sad at the same time. It's fun to see her get bigger, but sad because she's getting so big. Does that make sense? Either way, she's growing up whether I like it or not!

Crib

So, last summer when Chris and I were thinking of all the things we needed to buy for our new addition, we got a little overwhelmed. We were a little concerned with how much everything was going to cost. So, we hit the garage sales! Our mission was to find a crib. Chris was excited about the idea of refinishing an old one. We succeeded in finding a white one that was in great shape. We were so excited. We thought we would just strip the paint off and stain it a dark cherry color.

Well, it has been a bigger project than either of us have expected. I guess when factories paint cribs, they go all out. I think there must have been 10 layers of paint on that sucker. Anyway, I'm telling you all this because yesterday Chris spent about 10 hours sanding and sanding away. (I'm suprised there's still some crib left after all that sanding!) It's getting so close to being done & I'm way excited. We went to the good old Home Depot yesterday and finally picked the stain out. We figure it will be done in a week or two!! Yeahhh!!!

Oh, in case you are wondering, we didn't just leave Kate on the floor. :) She has been sleeping in her little play-yard. She doesn't know it, but she's excited for a real bed soon!

Green Bean Eating Machine

Kate turned 5 months old on Friday! Wow, how time flies! She's sooo much fun. In honor of her birthday, she got to eat her first bowl of green beans!! (Green beans are a little more age-appropriate than birthday cakes at this point) :) She loved them! I think she was a little suprised when she got her first taste, but after the initial shock, she gobbled them up! Such a good baby. I'm hoping she doesn't turn out as picky as I was when I was little. :) We'll keep our fingers crossed!
